Started by a math teacher
I taught middle and high school math for eleven years, and the part I liked best was the half hour after the bell with one student and a whiteboard. In 2012 I opened Inkwell to do that all day, in two rooms on Fairport Road.
We’re eight tutors now, most of us certified teachers, and I still do every first assessment myself. If it shows your child is on track, I’ll say so, and you won’t hear a sales pitch.

What families say
Our son went from a 68 to an 88 in Algebra I between October and the June Regents. Kate never once made him feel behind.
Anjali took our daughter’s ACT from a 24 to a 30 in two rounds of practice tests.
Marcus is the first reading tutor my son asks to see. He reads at grade level now, and he reads for fun, which I didn’t expect.
Dr. Park’s assessment found what three parent-teacher conferences hadn’t: our daughter was guessing at fractions. Six weeks later she wasn’t.
Clear notes after every session and a tutor my son actually likes. Fitting sessions around soccer was the hard part, so book early in the fall.
Questions parents ask
What ages do you teach?
Grades 3 through 12, so roughly 8 to 18. Most of our test-prep students are juniors.
How long is a lesson?
An hour, once or twice a week. Younger students sometimes do 45 minutes, and we’ll suggest a length after the assessment.
What does it cost?
One-on-one is $75 an hour, and a small group is $45 an hour for each student. SAT and ACT prep is a twelve-hour package for $1,140.
Do you teach online?
Yes, over Zoom with a shared whiteboard. About a third of our students meet their tutor online, and some switch back and forth.
How do I know it’s working?
You get a short note after every session and a progress check every eight weeks, measured against the first assessment. For test prep, the practice scores show it.
Can you work with an IEP or a 504 plan?
Yes. Send us the plan before the assessment, and we’ll build the sessions around its accommodations.
Do you help with homework?
When it’s what’s holding a student back. Most sessions follow the plan from the assessment, with time at the end for whatever is due tomorrow.
Book a free assessment
Send your child’s grade and the subject, and we’ll reply with a few times to choose from, usually the same day.
